Evan: update

Evan had one of his regular visits to his specialist today, and the news was all good! It’s been 10 months since the marrow transplant and the donor’s immune system is now at almost full strength. This means he is no longer at risk from bacterial infection, and has only a slightly elevated risk of viral infection. The main drug he is on now is to manage the viral risk. Recent scans show his digestive tract (which was severely damaged by the chemotherapy) has made a remarkable recovery. There is still one point of restricted flow just below his stomach, but that does not pose a risk nor does it warrant an operation. He still suffers a little from nausea and occasional vomiting after eating, but he can manage that through small, regular meals. Apart from that he can eat anything he chooses.
His shingles is also improving and he is no longer contagious. However his girlfriend did contract chickenpox from him.
