New arrival in the Tapia home

Yes, the Tapias have a new Kydd and Carlo showed it off last Friday night at the Sticky Bar.

A Kydd is an upright electric bass. It’s fretless, just like a double bass, and sounds just like a double bass too. The big difference is size – it’s just a stick with strings and weighs around 2.7 kilos (6 lbs)! Carlo loves it and the audience was in awe. He had it shipped from the States and believes it’s just the second in Australia.

The picture on the left shows how it’s played. It’s not really Carlo – I just pasted his head on a photo I found on the internet.
